This is inaccurately labeled as "5-30" but the first portion of the show here is actually the first set from 5-28-71, the second portion (from Deal on) is from 5-30. These two concerts have had inaccurately juxtaposed set lists for what seems like a century (actually, about 44 years) by so-called "experts" who weren't there, but 5-28 was the night to be at. The infamous "Winterland acid dosing" which made headlines and forced Bill Graham to "reconsider" his position in the concert business (for a while, at least.) The sound is horrid but it's a historical document of an Event, regardless. Try to get the 5-28 show, (2nd set) (again, always listed as the 29th) where the band really took off during Good Lovin' and the NFA-GRFB and you get a better taste of history. It's often labeled as "5-29" but they actually took the 29th off and made up for it on the 30th. I ought to know, the 28th was my first show.

...and most of set II was just released on pristine 180 gram vinyl for Record Store Day. That's apparently all the Dead have on tape, so if you're lucky enough to snag a copy then this rough audience completes the show. Morning Dew sounds fairly decent, too.

Thanx Charlie, I have never heard this before. Unfortunately the sound is pretty off, but for Pigpen I'll suffer a lot. Somewhere during Lovelight this becomes basically unlistenable. Fun show with great energy. I look forward to a better copy someday. I played Morning Dew on my radio show last night. Peace

The recording vastly improves after Bertha, although the end of the show has some sound issues as well. Overall, this is a solid show, worth the download.
ooh, The Rub is a very hot audience version. Everything picks up from here, with a solidly bassy Loser and the rest of the show is first rate music. Just adjust those eqs, and dream on back to the gold old days of listening to hissy tapes... this is much better...
